The complete absence of something is nothing, no-thing, or no thing, the opposite of everything, or its complement. The concept of nothingness has been the subject of philosophical debate since around the 5th century BC.
As G. W. F. Hegel pointed out:
- Thesis: the absolute is pure being
- Antithesis: the absolute is nothing
- Synthesis: the absolute is becoming
